Elementary Academics

Curriculum & Assessment (TK-4th Grade)

Curriculum Overview and Standards

Since 2013, Saint Lawrence has realigned its English Language Arts (ELA) and Math curricula to adhere with the California Common Core Curriculum. California content standards in science, social studies and physical education guide curriculum development in these subjects. Through continuous collaboration and professional development among educators, our curriculum is structured, differentiated and delivered in dynamic ways to engage all learners in the classroom.

In addition, religious education across all grades is delivered in accordance with the standards set forth by the Diocese of San Jose. This holistic approach to education is further fortified by  daily prayers, weekly Mass, monthly service projects, school-sponsored Sunday Masses, and the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The liturgical calendar guides other seasonal celebrations and sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist occur in 2nd Grade.

Assessment

At St. Lawrence, we prioritize ongoing assessment to monitor student progress effectively. Report cards are issued each trimester to all students. Midway through the first trimester in October, we conduct conferences with families to discuss individual student progress. Progress reports are distributed during these conferences to provide insights into students’ academic journey.

In grades TK through 5, we adhere to the rigorous standards set by the Diocese of San Jose, utilizing standards-based report cards. These report cards offer a detailed overview of each student’s performance, allowing for continued support and growth.
